According to Britannica, there are six subspecies of tigers, each with its own unique characteristics and habitats. These include the Siberian tiger, the Bengal tiger, the Sumatran tiger, the Indo-Chinese tiger, the South China tiger, and the Malayan tiger.

Some classifications combine these subspecies, however.

Tigers are apex predators, essential to the balance of a healthy ecosystem. Like all cats, tigers are carnivores. Their diet includes large animals such as pigs, buffalos, antelopes, and deer.

They also eat some smaller animals like fish, snakes, monkeys, and rodents.

On International Tiger Day, it is crucial to acknowledge the challenges these magnificent animals face. According to the Ranthambore National Park Blog, tigers are classified as endangered due to habitat loss and poaching.

A century ago, an estimated 100,000 tigers lived in the wild. Today, about 3,200 to 3,500 tigers are living in their natural habitat.
